South Africa has a unique and troubled past. For almost 60 years, South Africa's black majority was systematically oppressed by the white minority under the horrific Apartheid regime. As a traditionally white sport in South Africa, rugby has always struggled to attract a diverse audience.
​
But things are changing. In 2018 – for the first time in history – the Springboks were led by a black African captain, Siya Kolisi. The team is now more representative of South Africa’s diversity than ever, and support grows with every game. This changing Springbok landscape coincided with MTN becoming the team's title sponsor.
We wanted to inspire the new generation of black Springbok supporters to share their passion with the older, more cynical generation, thus growing the support base of the team.
